The Challenges of Modern Mining
Mining operators face continual pressure to improve operational efficiency and worker safety through automation of critical processes – from drilling and blasting to hauling and crushing. However, today’s Wi-Fi network solutions don’t fully support the automation and remote monitoring necessary to deliver on these requirements. Similarly, technologies such as TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA) and P25-based radio networks (Public Safety digital radio standards) are sometimes deployed for these purposes, but they were not built for broadband data or video communications.
As a result, mining operators are forced to rely on multiple network solutions for voice and data requirements, creating increased operational complexity, costs and operational vulnerabilities. Operators need a solution that provides the essential coverage, real-time latency, high bandwidth, and high device density needed to scale to the thousands of devices and data points required for the mine of the future.
